Our Inspiration
IMG_2565-2.jpg

Strathcona Investments takes its name and inspiration from Donald Smith (Lord Strathcona), a Scottish born Canadian, from humble beginnings, who made his fortune in the land of opportunity that was Canada, first working with the Hudson Bay Company, and rising through the ranks to play a key role in rolling out the new technology of the day, railroads, and building the Canadian Pacific Railway, that opened up trade, tourism and commerce. During his career he was involved in numerous other business ventures, including as a Chairman of Burmah Castrol, and the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, which later was to become BP.

As well as a leading business leader, Lord Strathcona was a major philanthropist, funding the construction of hospitals and supporting the development of Universities, and the advancement of society, through education, and medical advancement.

In that same spirit Strathcona Investments will look to invest in companies involved in key new technology trends that will continue to advance society, such as medical diagnostics, medical devices, food, and sustainable environmental technologies, as well as the our new "connected technologies" that improve efficiency and help meet the daunting task of slowing climate change.
